TIPS & TRICKS

What To Do if Table Names Change

If a database designer or administrator changes the name of a table in the database you are reporting against (e.g., if your nVISION Data Mart that holds your contact center data gets an update or modification), the next time you try to refresh the report, you will receive an error indicating that the table can’t be found. Unfortunately, refreshing the report or verifying the report will not solve this problem. To solve it, perform these simple steps:


1. Use the Set Location command. When the set location dialog box appears, choose the table whose name has changed. Then, just like the new table names directly in the text box at the bottom of the dialog box. (Make sure to leave the exclamation point that separates the table name from the database name). This will point the table to the new name to the database.


2. If you want the new name to appear throughout the report, use the Set Alias command to change the alias of the old table to the new table name. Using Set Location will correctly point the report to the new table name, but won’t change the name in the report – it will still be referred to by the old name. Set Alias will change the name of the table as well, avoiding confusion as to which physical table is actually being used.
